Health Advisory Rescinded for Quietwater

The health advisory for Quietwater Beach was rescinded today following testing conducted Monday.

“So, all is well,” said Erin Jeffreys, with the Escambia County Health Department public information office.

The department issued the warning Aug. 5 in response to high levels of enterococci being detected during water samplings earlier in the week. The so-called indicator bacteria — the variety that inhabits the intestinal tracts of animals and humans — is a sign that more harmful types of bacteria might also be present.

During tests conducted Monday, samples showed a 35.4 or less CFU (Colony Forming Units) per 100 milliliters of enterococci. That is considered good.

Last week, samples showed above 71 CFU/100 ml. over the course of two tests. Those two tests triggered the health advisory, which is rare for Quietwater Beach.
The beach will next be tested in two weeks.
