Airport Terminal Dedication Honors Former Gov. Askew

The Pensacola International Airport’s terminal was renamed March 13, dedicated as the Reubin O’Donovan Askew Terminal. Askew, who spent much of his life in Pensacola, served as Florida’s 37th governor, from 1971 to 1979.
During a dedication ceremony, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward issued a proclamation, as members of Askew’s family listened. A plaque and special dedication art piece were also unveiled.

Askew graduated from Pensacola High School in 1946 and later practiced law in the city. He served in both the Florida house and senate before being elected as governor. The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University rated him one of the country’s top ten governors of the 20th century.
