Escambia County’s Water Quality and Land Management division is teaming up with local nonprofit Ocean Hour to host a volunteer cleanup at Jones Swamp Wetland Preserve’s Southwest Greenway Trail. The cleanup — open to the public — is scheduled for Saturday, April 29 at the Glynn Key Boardwalk, located at 402 N. Navy Blvd.
The 2.5-mile Greenway Trail is located along Jones Creek and feeds into Bayou Chico and Pensacola Bay. The cleanup will be on the ¼-mile Glynn Key section of trail located near the intersection of Navy Boulevard and Highway 98.
Sign-in is at 8:45 a.m., with the cleanup taking place from 9 to 10 a.m. Volunteers are advised to dress for the weather and bring water, bug spray and sunscreen as needed. Volunteers are asked to park in the Cato’s parking lot at the southeast corner of Navy Boulevard and Highway 98 across the street from Wal-Mart at the traffic light. Supplies including buckets, grabbers, gloves and trash bags will be provided by Ocean Hour and stationed at the trailhead on the north side of Cato’s.
