Free Fishing Poles for Summer Campers

Fish Florida, a nonprofit organization which promotes fishing and conservation efforts, has awarded the city of Pensacola’s Parks and Recreation Department a $3,900 grant for the department’s Outdoor Pursuits program.

The grant will be used to provide a fishing pole for each child participating in the city’s summer fishing camps. The Outdoor Pursuits program offers both a basic and advanced fishing camp in the summer where children receive classroom instruction and hands-on fishing experience at various locations throughout Pensacola.

“Teaching our youth the life-long skill of fishing and inspiring them to be good stewards of the environment are the main goals of the Outdoor Pursuits youth fishing programs. This equipment grant from Fish Florida puts a fishing pole in the hands of each child who participates and helps ensure they continue the sport of fishing long after the camp is over,” Tim Land, Outdoor Pursuits and volunteer coordinator, said in a statement.

Pensacola reports that its Outdoor Pursuits program impacts approximately 260 children between the ages of 6 and 14 each summer. For more information about the fishing programs offered visit us online at www.playpensacola.com or call (850) 436-5670.
